August 09 Photography ~ An Art Of Capturing Moments In TimeChristmas 1977, I received my first camera. It was a 100 film camera, & I loved it! I started taking pictures almost right away & eagerly awaited the newly developed pictures to return to me. I still have that camera, although it's no longer in use. I don't know if I'll ever get rid of it, & I'm certainly not going to get rid of the Brownie box camera my dad had in his stuff. He gave it to me along with some of his dad's stuff, and he thinks it was Grandpa Knowles'. I don't know for sure, but I have that Brownie box on display as a valueable antique.
I've always loved photographs, whether I've taken them or others have. There's something mysterious yet open about capturing moments of time, whether through words or photographs, & I indulge in both. One of my favourite things to do, & something that's always relaxing to me, is going out on my own & just taking pictures. I'll go anywhere I can - especially in nature - to get great shots.
If someone asked me what my favourite kind of shots would be, I would honestly have to say it depends on the mood & the weather & the day & the clouds, or lack thereof. I can't say that this or that are my favourite kinds or shots. There're just too many to try & catch, & almost each time I come from a shoot I have a new favourite pic. So who's to say? If I was asked in a general sense, then my general answer is nature, for the most part, although I do love capturing my loved ones for posterity.
Photography's an art, really. Anyone can take photos and anyone can get shots, especially with today's technology. Not everyone has a true eye for it, though. It takes a special God-given gift to be able to see a cool shot & to capture it. I'm not saying I'm really great at it or anything, but I do have an eye for the pictures I want & for what'd make a great shot, at least to me, & I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on my work. Yes, I do consider myself a photographic artist, in a way. I believe photography's a great form of expression, one that's open to everyone.
One thing I love about photography is the variety in it. There's B&W & colour & sepia & all sorts of other shots. There's lighting to take into consideration, as well as angles & subjects, along with many other things. Also, you can have five different photographers taking the same shot, & all 5 pictures'll turn out differently. One may've focussed on a bug on a flower while another focussed on a speck of gravel in the background. Yet another might've caught one petal while the fourth played around with the light. The fifth may've captured the whole scene & left it up to the viewer to see it her way. I love that!
I'm a person who loves memories & the capturing of them, and photography's the perfect medium for this. Combined with my writing, I have a great medium for making my feelings and view of the world seen by others.
